    - p.401 : 'It is characteristic that Rore, in full consciousness of his responsibility, was the first to set to music Petrarch's sonnet Padre del ciel, doppo i perduti giorni, written on Good Friday 1338, the poem was used in spite of its personal content by the whole musical Counter Reformation as a sonetto spirituale, as a symbol of contrition and of the renunciation of the world and all its works. Among the other composers of the time, only Girolamo Scotto had the courage to compose it, for three voices. How Rore accomplished the task may be seen in our volume of examples.'
