Alcun non puņ saper da chisia amato,

Alcun non puņ saper da chisia amato,
Quando felice in su la ruota siede;
Perņ c'hai veri e finti amici a lato,
Che mostran tuti una medesma fed.
Se poi si cangia in tisto il lieto stato,
Volta la turb'adulatrice il piede;
E quel che di cor ama, riman forte,
Et ama il suo signor sin'a la morte

    Geen mens zal weten wie hem echt beminnen
    Zolang hij hoog zit op Fortuna's rad:
    Echte en valse vrienden en vriendinnen
    Gaan op dezelfde trouw en liefde prat.
    Maar als de tegenspoed het blijkt te winnen,
    Kiezen de vleiers snel het hazenpad.
    Slechts wie hem echt bemint is trouw gebleven
    En blijft dat, al verliest zijn heer het leven.
